The tax year runs from 6 April one year to 5 April the following year and is broken up into tax periods. The tax periods determine the tax and national insurance thresholds used to calculate your employees' pay depending on what pay date you use and the pay frequency. You can check the tax period your pay date falls into by printing the tax calendar or using the charts below.
Under RTI, the deadline for submitting a Full Payment Submission (FPS) is on or before the employees are paid. HMRC use the pay date contained in the submission to determine if you've submitted late or not, so it's important that you understand what this means to you and your employees. Read more >
