My Data

Welcome to My Data

This website is here to help you with any data corruption queries.

The full My Data site is available to customers with a valid SageCover contract. You have entered log in details that do not relate to an account with a current Sage 50 Accounts SageCover contract.

The Non-fixable errors tab lists all of the errors that cannot be fixed within your software and what to do if you have any of these. The Avoiding corruption tab explains what data corruption is, how to identify it and how to minimise the risk of data corruption.

If you want to access the full site which explains what each error, warning and comment is and how to fix it, log out then log back in using a login that is linked to an account with a current Sage 50 Accounts SageCover contract.

For further information about SageCover and its benefits, visit the Sage Shop or contact us on 0800 33 66 33.

What is it?

We know how important the integrity of your Sage Accounts data is to you. Data corruption is a serious risk to any business system and the resulting data loss or damage can be very costly in terms of time and money. This area of our website will help you ensure that your data is protected against possible damage. We look at how to minimise the risk, recognise the warning signs and what steps to take if corruption has occurred.

Data corruption means that a data set has been damaged. In Sage Accounts, corruption is normally identified when the Check Data routine identifies errors in your data.

Corruption is normally caused by environmental influences outside of the software itself. The following are some of the known causes of corruption, although the list is not exhaustive:

  • PC crashes
  • Power surges
  • Power failure
  • Virus infection
  • Interference from other software
  • Hardware or network problems
  • Faulty or damaged backup media

How does this affect my data?

Since data corruption indicates damaged or even missing data, to prevent the following impacts, you must resolve it as quickly as possible to prevent the following:

  • Duplication of work - If data is lost, it must be re-entered and possibly re-reconciled, this is both time consuming and costly.
  • Down time - If the data must be repaired off site then employees dedicated to data input may face a period of down time.
  • Data loss - If previous backups have failed, data loss may be permanent and the entries must be reprocessed.
  • Data integrity - Unreliable data affects the validity of business critical reports, including the VAT Return.

Not all errors can be fixed using the procedures stated on this website. We recommend if you have errors which cannot be fixed that you restore a backup of your data which has no errors.

As a last resort you can send your data in to us to be fixed. When we repair data it may involve removing a number of transactions however, we may not be able to provide details of the removed transactions. You must also stop processing for the duration of the repair. If you restore a backup it may result in less time to reprocess the transactions compared to sending the data in.
