Check your system requirements and access rights

Before you install the new version of Sage Micropay, you must check that your computer meets the recommended system requirements and that you're logged on to your computer as an administrator. If you don't have administrator access, your software may not install correctly.

If you use Sage Micropay in a network environment and store your data on a server, you need to have the relevant permissions to your data folder. You many need to contact your IT support for help with this.

Check where your Sage Micropay data is held

To guarantee that your new update installs to the correct location on each computer, you must know where your existing version is installed.

  1. Open Sage Micropay and log in to a payroll as normal.
  2. On the menu bar, click Help then click System Information.
  3. Make a note of the Program Directory and Data Directory links.
  4. Repeat the steps above on each computer that operates Sage Micropay.

If the Data Directory link shows a local drive, for example, C:\Program Data\Micropay Professional, then your payroll data is held on this computer. If the Data Directory link shows a mapped network drive, then your payroll data is held on a network.

Check your payroll data is ready for upgrading

To successfully upgrade your software from a previous version, your payroll's status must be either Start of Period (SOP) or End of Period (EOP).

You can check the status of your payroll at the bottom of your Micropay window.

If your payroll status is Time and Pay Calculated (CALC), you must post the end the period values now:

  1. On the menu bar, click Processing then click End of Period
  2. When prompted to post calculation results, to continue, click OK.

Back up your payroll data

Before you install the new version of your software, you should take a full system backup of your payroll data.

You should back up to a reliable storage medium, such as a network drive, a secondary disk drive or a memory stick.

You can quickly download the latest version of Sage Micropay directly from your software, using automatic updates.
