Set up your Sage Payments account

Once your Sage Payments account is set up, you should add your companies and users before linking it to your Sage software.

First you must log into your Sage Payments account at www.sagepayments.co.uk

1. Create your Sage Payments companies

With a Sage Payments account, you can only make payments on behalf of the single legal entity or business that operates the account.

If you have multiple sets of data in your Sage software, you can link these to your Sage Payments account as long as they’re part of the same legal entity or business. To make payments for more than one legal entity or business, you must open separate Sage Payments accounts.

To link multiple sets of data to your Sage Payments account, for each data set you want to link to, you must first add a company within Sage Payments.

Tip: When you first set up your Sage Payments account, a default company is created. To change the name of the default company, simply edit the name and click Update.

  1. Account Settings > Companies.
  2. Name > enter a name for your new company, for example, Accounts data > Add.
  3. Repeat step 2 for any additional companies you want to create.

Once you've set up additional companies, you must choose which users have access to them. If it's only yourself who is to access these companies, you must assign the relevant access to your user account. For information about how to do this, please move onto the step below.

2. Set up your users

If you want others to access your Sage Payments account, you can add them as additional users.

To add a user

Note: Any users you add must have their own Sage ID. They'll already have a Sage ID if they've ever registered to use or trial Sage One, Sage 200 or Sage Drive. If not, they can create one after you add them as a user. When adding a user, you must use the same email address as the one they use for their Sage ID.

  1. Account Settings > User access > Email > enter the new user's email address > Add.
  2. Payee/Payment creator > from the company(s) drop-down list, choose the companies the user can access.
  3. Payee/Payment approver > to allow the new user to approve payments and payees, select this check box.
  4. System administrator > to allow the user to access and change account settings, select this check box > Update.
  5. An authorisation code is sent to the registered mobile phone to approve the changes.

  6. Enter the authorisation code > Confirm > Close.

The new user receives an email notifying them that they now have access to your Sage Payments account. It also contains a link to create a Sage ID if they don't already have one.

We recommend that you carefully consider the suitability of any individuals who are permitted to access your Sage Payments account, and of the permissions set for each authorised user.

To assign an existing user to a new company

If you set up a new company, you must choose which users have access to that company and assign access. If you're the only user, and you create additional companies, you must assign yourself to these companies.

  1. Account Settings > User access.
  2. Next to the relevant user, from the company(s) drop-down list, choose the companies the user is to access.

You've now got the relevant access to your new companies. Read more about managing your Sage Payments account >>
